2024年11月6日～9日にコロラド州デンバーにあるコロラドコンベンションセンターにて開催されましたASHG2024 annual meeting にNCBNブースを出展しました。
デンバーは天気が良い日が多いと聞いていたのですが、吹雪になるような天候が悪い日がありましたが、ASHGにはたくさんの人が世界各地から来訪されており、非常に盛況でした。

IlluminaやPacBioが大きなブースを出していて、非常に目立ちました。ある程度ブースを見回してみたところ、中国企業を見かけることが多く、勢いを感じました。日本企業では、タカラや日立、東洋紡を確認しました。

NCBNブースの場所はポスターエリアの近くでした。隣のドイツの企業は、AI用いて遺伝子疾患をもった顔写真を作成するようなシステムを紹介していました。今後はAIを使用したアプリケーションがもっと出てくると予想されます。
今回NCBNのブースの場所は端の方にあったためか、来訪者は前回より少なく3日間の来訪者は約120名程度でした。

来訪者からのゲノム関連についての質問は前回と同様に多くありましたが、今回はバイオバンク自体やその保有試料に興味を持つ人が増えました。
神経変性疾患や老年病に関する質問を複数の方からいただきました。日本人類遺伝学会でも同様の質問があったことから、NCBNではNCNPやNCGGの専門分野に注目が集まっているものと考えられます。

海外では、バイオバンクには解析データがあることが前提のようで、解析結果のデータベースがあるか、解析データを使えるのか、など毎回の質問をいただきます。それだけゲノムデータについての興味があるということであり、NCBNもできる限り早く解析データを持てるようにすることが重要と考えています。NCBNには様々な疾患があり、希少疾患や難病も含まれていることから解析する価値が高いものと考えており、中国企業などの進出の勢いをみると、早めに着手することが重要と考えますので、NCBNとしての海外提供を行うためのルールの制定が急がれます。

We exhibited NCBN booth at ASHG2024 annual meeting held at Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado on November 6-9, 2024.
Although we had heard that Denver has many fine days, there were some bad weather days that turned into snowstorms, but ASHG was very successful with many people visiting from all over the world.

Illumina and PacBio had large booths and were very visible. After looking around the booths to some extent, I saw many Chinese companies and felt that they were gaining momentum. As for Japanese companies, we saw Takara, Hitachi, and Toyobo.
The location of the NCBN booth was near the poster area. A German company next to us was introducing a system that uses AI to create facial photos with genetic disorders. We expect to see more applications using AI in the future.
Perhaps because the NCBN booth was located at the far end of the exhibition area, the number of visitors was smaller than the previous show, with about 120 visitors over the three days.

As in previous years, visitors asked many questions about genome-related topics, but this time more people were interested in the biobank itself and its holdings.
Several visitors asked questions about neurodegenerative diseases and geriatric diseases. Similar questions were asked at the Japanese Society of Human Genetics, which suggests that the NCBN is drawing attention to NCNP and NCGG’s areas of expertise.

Overseas, it seems that biobanks are assumed to have analysis data, and we receive questions every time about whether there is a database of analysis results, whether we can use the analysis data, and so on. We believe it is important for NCBN to be able to have the analysis data as soon as possible. In view of the momentum of Chinese and other companies entering the market, we think it is important to start the project as soon as possible.
